The quilts featured in the collection:
The first quilt I designed to go with this collection is called Basseterre. I truly love how the fabrics play together and make this quilt shine! To make this quilt you will need Corner Pop and corner Pop II tools by Studio 180 Design. They make the visual "curve" that makes the quilt look much harder to make than what it really is! I also used Stripology XL tool by Creative Grids (optional) as I like to cut the strips faster and more efficiently than what a regular ruler would achieve. The strip piecing allowed me to make the nine patch units with a breeze! You can get both a printed quilt pattern as well as a downloadable quilt pattern for Basseterre on my webstore. |
Next up is Blue Swan. I had designed this quilt a long time ago, but it was just waiting for the right fabrics to come along to surface from my EQ8 folder. Talking about EQ8 (or Electric Quilt 8), I wonder how many of you use it to either design quilts, make an existing pattern bigger or smaller to better suit your needs, or as a tool to see which fabrics go together? For me, I use it for all these purposes as well as several other purposes. Blue Swan is a one tool quilt, unless you want to also use an optional tool, Stripology XL by Creative Grids. But a must have tool to make this whimsical quilt is Corner Pop tool by Studio 180 Design. It allows those corners to be popped and replaced. You can get both a printed quilt pattern as well as a downloadable version for Blue Swan on my website. |
Jacinda is yet another quilt pattern that is using Corner Pop tool by Studio 180 Design! And again, Stripology XL ruler by Creative Grids will speed up the process, yet is optional. This quilt looks as if it was set in point, but not to worry, it is not set in point! Its the corners that have been popped that gives an illusion of that. The fun fabrics from the Autumn Twilight collection provides the perfect balance to make this design come alive! You can buy a printed pattern or downloadable pattern from my web store. |
Last but certainly not least is Sweet Whisper. I designed this to be a quick and easy pattern to make, though you need to be able to keep all the fabrics in order and labeled to avoid mistakes. This pattern uses Tucker Trimmer I by Studio 180 Design (required) and Stripology XL by Creative Grids (optional). I love when simply blocks make a very appealing design - don't you! And such is certainly the case with Sweet Whisper! It is comprised of half square triangles and combination units on blocks along with strip pieced sashing! You can find Sweet Whisper on my web store as a printed and downloadable pattern. |
Bonus
Well, if you know me, I'm not very good at making "scrappy" quilts, let alone blocks. But I still decided to accept the challenge. And I'm so glad I did.
Now, since this was to be scrappy, I didn't take everything on EQ8 as must have placement. I don't usually have the ability to sweer off from the map, but I felt quite liberated that I didn't have to place everything exactly how it was shown on EQ8. I continued to play with the different fabrics until I was pleased with the coloration. I think there is hope for me! |
Do you make many scrappy looking quilts? if you don't, why not give it a try and make a small quilt and see how you like it!
